The Camps Office is excited about this new year as we work to “Be His Light” (our 2019 theme) this summer.   In preparation for summer camp, that is only 6 months away and will be here before we know it, we wanted to share some important information with you.

It’s that time to begin thinking about hosting a District Enrollment Gathering.  As of this newsletter we have two Districts confirmed and would like to have all 10 Districts confirmed by the end of January.  We made phone calls or sent emails to those who have helped us set them up in the past.   Please reach out to us at 810-622-8744 if you have not received an email or phone call and are the new contact person for your District.  We definitely look forward to working with everyone to make these Enrollment Gatherings a success.

The Camp Ozanam Enrollment Jamboree date has been set for Saturday, March 23rd.  We’ll have a morning meeting from 10:00am to 12:00pm at Sacred Heart Major Seminary to discuss this year’s enrollment process, share things that have worked in the past and enjoy fellowship over a continental breakfast.  More information about the morning event will be sent out later, but for now we ask that you save the date.

Oh, it’s that time again when we are looking for dedicated, energetic, faith filled, friendly, and hard-working summer residential staff over the age of 18 to fill the position of counselor.   All applicants must be available from June 17 through August 3.   If interested, they need to fill out an application found at www.campsconnect.org or call the camps office at 810-622-8744 to have one mailed.  They are paid positions that include room and board for the entire 6 weeks of the summer program (that includes one week of training).

Then, each week at camp, we are in need of 4 to 5 high school volunteers, ages 16 to 17, to assist with the camp program working primarily in the kitchen (helping with dishes, setting the tables, cleaning) and assisting staff with the evening program.   If interested, they must fill out an application found at www.campsconnect.org or call the Camps Office at 810-622-8744 to have one mailed out to them.

Please look around your parish, community and family to see who might just standout as a potential candidate for either a staff position or volunteer and recommend the website to them.  We need all the help we can to find good staff and volunteers for this summer!

SAVE THE DATE for the annual Camp Stapleton and Camp Ozanam Work Day to be held on Saturday, May 4th from dawn to dusk.  We will be working on a multitude of projects around the camp.   Bring the family (all ages welcome)!   Breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Saturday will be provided.  Please call the camp office to RSVP at 810-622-8744 or email ckrucker@svdpdetroit.org!   Join us for the day, afternoon, or a few hours!  Any amount of time given will make a difference!

We have a lot going on in preparation for the summer and look forward to your assistance in this endeavor!  Let us all “Be His Light”!
