The Assistant Store Manager of St. Vincent de Paul Detroit, (SVdPD), supports the Store Manager with the coordination of all store activities. In the event the Store Manager is not present, the Assistant Store Manager is called upon to fill the Store Manager role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Exemplify the elements of SVdP: Spirituality, Friendship and Service in all phases of work
  • Advance the mission, goals and objectives in all applicable strategic plans
  • Support / Live / Adhere to the “Rule” and teachings set forth by Frederic Ozanam
  • Effectively communicate to store personnel any new, changed, or eliminated process, procedure, program or resolution
  • Ensure policies and procedures of SVdPD are followed by all store personnel
  • Trains, supervises and develops store personnel as delegated by the Store Manager
  • Assist with the overall quality of merchandising and operations for the store
  • Monitors inventory level of resale merchandise
  • Recommends improvements to promote greater efficiency and lower costs
  • Assists Store Manager with implementation of new store programs
  • Services referral clients with the selection of merchandise
  • Manages and maintains expenses within budget resulting in store profit
  • Investigates and reconciles cash discrepancies
  • Turns in signed delivery receipts promptly to both the Accounting Team @ SVdPD and Director of Thrift Stores and Warehouse Operations
  • Investigates and resolves customer concerns at store level ensuring the highest standards of customer service and public relations are met
  • Ensures daily adequate store sales against daily payroll costs and consults with Store Manager with appropriate action to maintain profitable relationship
  • Assists Store Manager with periodic inventory tasks
  • Assists Store Manager with the development of weekly work schedule for all employees and volunteers
  • Assists Store Manager with loss prevention and store security responsibilities
  • During times of Store Manager absence, responsible for managing the cash deposits/bank drop.
  • Mandatory attendance of quarterly assistant store manager meeting
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Other duties may be assigned

Qualifications

Education / Experience

  • Retail experience
  • Excellent customer service skills including experience in assisting all people in a friendly, professional, courteous manner
  • Sales, Merchandising, Marketing skills
  • Cash handling experience and reliability
  • Strong leadership skills including ability to motivate and direct diverse workforce


Language Skills

Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills needed to write clear, concise memos, reports, and analyses. Ability to read and interpret general business manuals and periodicals. Ability to speak effectively with employees and customers and negotiate with vendors of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure and possess the ability to use a calculator.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Must utilize critical thinking and problem-solving skills daily.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by and employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, hear and drive. Manual work, inside and/or outside, is required at times. Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. Travel within metropolitan tri-county area to St. Vincent de Paul facilities and camps, local service groups, city & county offices. Valid driver’s license is mandatory.

Must be available 24/7 for possible building emergencies and security alarm notifications.
