The Drivers Helper for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Detroit, (SVdPD), is responsible for assisting the Truck Driver with all pickup, delivery and movement of donated clothing, furniture, and other designated items throughout the Detroit metropolitan community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Exemplify the elements of SVdP: Spirituality, Friendship and Service in all phases of work
  • Advance the mission, goals and objectives in all applicable strategic plans
  • Support / Live / Adhere to the “Rule” and teachings set forth by Frederic Ozanam
  • Review daily route manifest schedule daily for understanding
  • Provide navigational assistance to driver
  • Load and unload merchandise orderly and neatly paying special attention to designated areas in warehouse.
  • Maintain cleanliness of truck including cab and box daily.
  • Assist with “Clean Outs” of drop boxes or stores and “church drive bundle Sundays” when assigned
  • Be friendly, courteous, and respectful when servicing a donor or neighbor-in-need.
  • Ability to work and get along with others
  • Other duties may be assigned

Qualifications

Education / Experience

  • Mapping / routing experience
  • Excellent customer service skills including experience in assisting all people in a friendly, professional, courteous manner
  • Knowledge of geographical area
  • High School diploma or equivalent


Language Skills

Ability to speak effectively with customers and fellow employees of SVdPD.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure and possess the ability to use a calculator.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Must utilize critical thinking and problem-solving skills daily.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by and employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, bend, and reach. Manual work, inside and/or outside, is required at times. Utilization of pallet jack, dolly or tools will be required. Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.

The SVdPD Warehouse is a typical warehouse environment. The noise level is moderate. The employee will also be exposed to various types of weather during the pickup and delivery process.
