The Energy Assistance Program Specialist at St. Vincent de Paul Detroit, SVdPD is a knowledgeable team member who processes EAP applications with an understanding of how to correctly apply MEAP policies and procedures pragmatically to assure neighbors in need get access to help in an efficient manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Exemplify the elements of SVdP: Spirituality, Friendship and Service in all phases of work
- Advance the mission, goals and objectives in all applicable strategic plans
- Support / Live / Adhere to the “Rule” and teachings set forth by Frederic Ozanam
- Ability to work well with others
- Support the quality and compliance efforts of the EAP Department by accurately applying MEAP and departmental policies and procedures used to completely process energy assistance applications.
- Remain knowledgeable on grant standards as outlined in the MEAP Handbook, subsequent iterations, etc.
- Efficiently and accurately apply MEAP policies to process EAP applications from receipt to award or denial. This may include any or all of the following:
- Data entry into THAW Safety Net
- Identifying the proper program for customer payment
- Accurately calculating the amount to pay.
- Accurately identifying when customers are ineligible
- Communication with the customer to resolve issues
- Affordable Payment Plan (APP) Enrollment
- Follow up on incomplete MEAP applications
- Notify DHHS of copay authorization and/or APP enrollment to satisfy copay.
- Proper documentation of all activity per grant requirements
- Close out files within established timelines
- Other duties may be assigned such as assisting customers with the online MI Bridges SER application, MEAP applications, and/or answering live calls from neighbors in need.

Education / Experience
Computer experience must include Microsoft Office Suite.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret general business manuals and periodicals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with employees, customers, vendors, fellow community assistance managers, and program recipients. Strong communication skills.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Strong organizational skills, efficient, detail oriented with problem solving ability.
