Transforming Lives at Camp Ozanam for More than 100 Years
Camp Ozanam continues to create life-changing experiences for children who need it most. In 2024, the camp welcomed 328 campers to the shores of Lake Huron, with 89% coming from low-income households and 57% from single-parent families. For many, this marked their first experience away from home and technology, to be immersed in nature and community.
“Before camp, I had never been camping or slept in a cabin,” shared one camper with autism. “Attending camp helped me gain more independence, build my confidence, and become more self-reliant.”
Parents noticed remarkable changes too, with 94% reporting growth in their child’s emotional intelligence and social interactions. One parent observed, “Before camp both of my children were very reserved and shy, and camp has made them open up and really come out of their shell.”
Beyond outdoor adventures like swimming and canoeing, campers discovered spiritual growth through daily activities. “I learned that you can pray to Jesus in many different ways like in songs or prayers,” one young camper reflected. This holistic approach made an impression—98% of parents reported growth in their child’s personal spiritual journey.
The impact extends well beyond a week of summer fun. A grateful parent summarized it perfectly: “My children never experienced this and it was free of charge. I truly appreciate this!” Through the generosity of supporters and dedicated Vincentians, Camp Ozanam continues its legacy of transforming young lives and creating memories that last a lifetime.
