CONFERENCE CONNECTION Update from Megan Williams - Store Operations
Because we’re committed to our retail and donation operations, we made the decision to move forward with a Priority Pickup system that will be available to the public, called Resupply, a Veteran based company that was highly recommended by our National Council.
Over the last few months, home pickup requests have significantly increased causing considerable challenges servicing our six retail stores and 120 donation bins. Our National Council estimates a home pickup cost averages $84 and is expected to steadily increase over time.
Resupply will allow us to offer home pickups to the public within 48 hours beginning at $99. These donations are transported directly to our stores for resale.
To help us control our costs and provide the most for those in need, this decision was necessary. However, we are making a special exemption for valued members of SVdPD. To qualify for this exemption, your pickup must meet the following:
- Home pick-ups are available Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm.
- A minimum of 20 bags/boxes of clothing, miscellaneous, or small household items, or at least 3 pieces of furniture.
- We will accept gently used items that are not in need of repair.
- For employees’ safety, we cannot enter any home or building.
- All items must be easily accessible and placed at their predetermined location (unlocked garage, porch, or driveway).
- Pick-ups will be routed by donor location based on available trucks in the area.
Keep in mind, we do not accept the following:
- Large Appliances
- Anything Wet or Soiled
- Newspapers or Magazines
- Ripped, Broken, or Soiled Furniture
- Mattresses, Box Springs, or Hide-A-Beds
- A bathroom or Kitchen Fixture
- Building/Construction Material
- Household Chemicals and Cleaners
- Automobile parts
- Baby furniture and accessories
If you have a need for a pickup, please contact Lynn Karnes at (313) 672-7837 or at 877-788-4623.
