The Baler of St. Vincent de Paul Detroit, (SVdPD), utilizes the baling machine to compress used clothing into dense bales for transportation and sale to wholesalers of used clothing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Exemplify the elements of SVdP: Spirituality, Friendship and Service in all phases of work
- Advance the mission, goals, and objectives in all applicable strategic plans
- Support / Live / Adhere to the “Rule” and teachings set forth by Frederic Ozanam
- Bale merchandise
- Operate baling machine with the utmost of care to ensure safety
- Alert supervisor to any machine problems or maintenance needed
- Assist with loading and unloading of merchandise on / off trucks in a neat and orderly fashion
- Assemble donated merchandise if needed
- Maintain a safe working area
- Ability to work and get along with others
- Other duties may be assigned

Education / Experience
- Warehouse floor organization
- Familiarity with industrial equipment
- High School diploma or equivalent
Language Skills
Ability to speak effectively with fellow employees of SVdPD.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure and possess the ability to use a calculator.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Must utilize critical thinking and problem-solving skills daily.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, hear and drive. Manual work, inside and/or outside, is required at times. Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. Utilization of pallet jack, dolly, and various tools is required.
