Need assistance with energy bills? We can help. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul Detroit assists our neighbors in need with help on their past-due heat and energy bills. Our goal is to support our neighbors overcome crises and achieve their self-sufficiency aspirations.

Consumers Energy Fund Program
Have you, or someone you know, fallen behind on your gas or electric bills? SVdP Detroit is distributing up to $365K in funds to Consumers Energy customers who require assistance paying their utility bills. Application deadline is September 15, 2023. Begin the process by following the steps below.
3 Simple Steps
Step 1
Verify you meet the income requirements:

Step 2
Apply for State Emergency Relief (SER). Wait for a determination letter. Even if you are denied SER due to income, you may still be eligible for these funds.
Step 3
Complete the Consumers Energy Screening Worksheet and a St. Vincent de Paul Care Coordinator will follow up with you in 24-48 business hours.

Eligibility Requirements
- Must be a Consumers Energy residential account holder (or spouse)
- Must be living at the residence for which the account is past due
- Total household income must be under 400% of the Federal Poverty Level
- No unaddressed theft, illegal usage or bankruptcy on the Consumers Energy Account
