Join Us for the Friends of the Poor® Walk — September 19 on Belle Isle
Every September, something special happens on Belle Isle.
Neighbors lace up their shoes, gather at the water’s edge, and walk together. The Friends of the Poor® Walk is SVdP Detroit’s annual community walk and one of the clearest expressions of what we believe: neighbors helping neighbors, one mile at a time.
This year, we’d love for you to join us.

A Walk That Grows Every Year
Last year’s walk brought together 323 participants and raised more than $18,000 for SVdP Detroit’s programs, which directly support Metro Detroit neighbors facing homelessness, hunger, and hardship.
“As Vincentians, we’re all about fellowship and friendship, so what better way to do that than this beautiful day with all these beautiful people?” said Barbara Radecki, Council President of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Detroit.\
For 2026, >we’re setting a new goal: 500 walkers and $50,000 raised. You can be part of reaching it. Walk, donate, or both.
Why It Matters
Every dollar raised through the Friends of the Poor® Walk goes directly to SVdP Detroit’s work in Metro Detroit communities: home visits, emergency assistance, food programs, and more. The walk is proof that this community shows up for each other.
“Part of our mission is growing in holiness through a network of friends, and this type of event really exemplifies that,” said Mary Lynn Faunda Donovan, CEO of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Detroit. “We’re all a network of friends, and being able to come together in raising funds with a passion for helping others really makes a big difference.
